The Ottawa Senators are already finding themselves in the middle of trade rumours this summer, and one of the more interesting names being connected to them is St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou.
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen, the Blues are open to discussing Kyrou, although it won't come cheap. At the same time, Brady Tkachuk's name continues to pop up in league circles despite the Senators showing no interest in moving their captain.
Steve Staios has pushed back on the Tkachuk speculation more than once, but that hasn't stopped people from wondering what it would take to pull off a deal involving a player of that calibre. When you have one team reportedly listening on Kyrou and another team being constantly asked about Tkachuk, the dots are going to get connected.
One potential framework could look something like this:
St. Louis Blues receive: F Brady Tkachuk
Ottawa Senators receive: F Jordan Kyrou, D Logan Mailloux, D Adam Jiricek, and a 2026 first-round pick (via Detroit)
For Ottawa, the biggest piece coming back is obviously Kyrou. He's signed for five more years at an $8.125 million cap hit and brings a different element than what the Senators currently have in their top six. His speed is what stands out most, and he'd immediately become one of the team's most dangerous offensive players.
The rest of the package is where things get interesting. Mailloux gives Ottawa another young right-shot defenceman who already has some NHL experience, while Jiricek is still viewed as a prospect with plenty of upside. Then there's the first-round pick, which gives the Senators another asset to either use at the draft or potentially move in another deal.
From the Blues' side, the appeal is pretty easy to understand. Tkachuk is the type of player teams spend years trying to find. He plays with an edge, produces offensively, and brings a level of competitiveness that every organization wants more of.
There would still be obstacles to work through, including Kyrou's full no-trade clause. But with the draft getting closer and rumours starting to pick up around the league, this feels like the kind of idea people are going to keep talking about until something actually happens.
